November 24th : Dave Scanlan and Friends. Suggested donation $5 – $10

This group of Nelson musicians (and one local Ms. Aiko Jackson), will play and be recorded live by Gallery staff._DSC0461  In recent months, they have played at the Whatshan Lake Music Festival, and at the Blue Belle Bistro in Kaslo.  Dave has played bass with a variety of bands throughout the Kootenays since graduating from the music program at David Thompson University Centre in the early 1980’s.  He’s been known to occasionally sing, backing himself up with solid finger-style acoustic guitar.  His songwriting has often drawn comparisons to John Prine, Loudon Wainwright III, and American southwest writers such as Robert Earl Keen.   Dave will be backed up by a stellar band, including Darren Mahe on acoustic lead guitar, slide, and dobro.  Darren teaches at the Selkirk College Professional Music Program.  He and Dave are both members of the Nelson based band, “Roxy”.  Stephanie Darychuk, originally from Creston and a former Selkirk College music student, plays upright bass in this band.  The band includes two percussionists: The legendary Marvin Walker on snare, hand drums, and background vocals, and local favorite, Aiko Jackson on djembe, shakers, and vocals.
